Professional software appraisals with Deposix
The initial inspection carried out by Deposix for all software deposited in escrow is very comprehensive. However it only consists of a quantitative control of the deposited source code. This is why Deposix is also offers a qualitative inspection of the software: through a detailed technical analysis, a so-called “technical verification”, the source code is examined in terms of its suitability for later use. This additional technical inspection is particularly recommended for licence holders who want to determine whether or not the deposited material may be used in neutral system environments at a later point.
Detailed technical inspection
The aim of Deposix's technical inspection is to guarantee the continued usability of the source code for future troubleshooting or further development. In order to ensure the quality and integrity of the deposited software package, Deposix offers different levels of testing:
- Docu-Check: Examination of the submitted documentation for integrity and clarity of content
- Compilability test: Confirmation of the compilability of the deposited source code (plausibility check)
- Compile - Build - Run: Ensuring that the deposited source code results in an executable object code
- Functionality test 1: Targeted testing of individual functions according to a separate list
- Functionality test 2: Testing of the full functionality according to separate specifications
- Code review: Analysis of compliance with generally recognised programming guidelines
If requested Deposix can carry out these technical tests independent of actual escrows, e.g. for open source products.
